Membership Walkthrough

Oct 15, 2019
In my live Zoom session yesterday, I played through versions of "Sweet Home Chicago" and "St. James Infirmary" to illustrate how a month of lessons would look in the Fingerstyle Five membership. I've posted a link to the replay below, and in it, you can watch me go from the basic bass-and-melody arrangement, through adding in chord voicings and intervals, to working out an introduction, finding places to do chord hits up the neck, creating spots to improvise and pulling it all together into a multi-chorus arrangement of each song.

Registration for the membership closes tonight, and it won't reopen again until after the new year. If you're one of the over 125 people to already sign up, you're probably not even reading this message, but for those of you who remain intrigued but uncommitted, the lesson below should give you a good idea of the kinds of tunes we'll be looking at, the ways we'll work on them and the overall approach to building a repertoire.

And if this seems like a lot of ideas at once, remember that this amount of material would be released over the course of a month, for one song at a time, and once a lesson is released, it will remain available to stream for as long as you're a member. So if you're the kind of person who likes to work at their own pace or might be in and out of town, or not sure if you can keep up, I want to make it clear that how and when you work on this material is entirely up to you. Aside from the fact that it's released in weekly doses, there's no restriction on how you work on it, so there's no way to get behind or feel like because you didn't work on things for a week or two you're now missing something. Everything will remain available, and even the monthly live sessions will be captured and posted for replay.

If you want to sign up, you've got till midnight CST tonight to do so. Here's the link to register:

And seriously, this is my second-to-last email about this. But if you've still got questions? I'm here for you, man. Just drop me a line and I'll explain what I can!

More (but not too much more) soon,
