Last Call for The Fingerstyle Five Membership

Oct 15, 2019
Registration for The Fingerstyle Five membership closes in one hour, at 11pm CST. I know I've been talking about this for the past three weeks, but you know what? I still haven't decided if I should be capitalizing the "T" in "the" or not. Is it The Fingerstyle Five membership? Or the Fingerstyle Five membership?

It reminds me of my friend Gerald's problem with his email address. Someone already had his name as the prefix for their email account, with the same service provider I guess, so he had to go with "the Gerald." Fortunately, as far as I know, there's only one Fingerstyle Five membership in existence, so far at least. I suppose a day could come when my membership is so successful I spend most of my time litigating against websites with names like The Fingerstyle Four and the Thingerstyle Hive and their shoddily constructed arrangements of roots music classics with random missing bars, upside down chords and lopsided melodies.

Which sort of gives one pause. I mean – I'm down with some success. But, you know, I gotta be able to walk down the street in Austin without having people coming up to me with Sharpies asking me to sign the laptops they watch my lessons on. I think that would get old kind of fast, and I'm a guy who enjoys his walks, at least during the 50% of the year it's not insufferably hot out. After all, walking is how you get to the tacos.

But that's besides the point. The point, to sum up, is: A) Still not sure how to punctuate the name of my membership, but I'm opening the doors tomorrow anyway to the 140 new members who've already registered, B) you've got an hour left to join the throng and start building your repertoire, developing your arranging skills and learning to improvise on fingerstyle blues instrumentals, and C) this really is your last chance to enroll, as I'm closing registration at 11pm CST and will not be taking any more new members on until the beginning of 2020 at the earliest.

So here's the link to sign up:

Register Now

I had more than one person ask me, why am I closing registration after just five days? And the answer is: come on, look at me. Do I look like some kind of Harvard MBA? Not that there's anything wrong with that – some of my best friends went to Harvard, or have an MBA, although I'm not sure I actually count any literal Harvard MBAs among my immediate circle. But seriously. I'm ok getting out there and talking up my membership, because I think it's a good piece of work and could really help your playing. But I'd much rather be doing the actual teaching and all of that. If I leave registration open, I'll have to think about the promotional side of things all the time, and – sigh – that's not really my jam. By closing registration tonight, I can turn my undivided attention to seeing to it that your experience in the membership is as good as I'm capable of making it. Which means I'll be having as much fun as you are, and possibly even more.

So...sign up! It's going to be a good time. Hope to see you inside.

More soon,

David
